NPTEL Awareness Workshop at Shri Shankaracharya Technical Campus, Bhilai. An awareness workshop on NPTEL for faculty members was successfully organized by Shri Shankaracharya Technical campus in collaboration with Centre for Education Technology (CET), IIT Kharagpur on 17th of January 2017. The workshop had active participation from various engineering colleges, science colleges, and polytechnic institutes. It attracted approx 200 participants from all over the Chhattisgarh.
The director of SSTC, Dr. P.B. Deshmukh, formally opened the awareness workshop. In his remarks, he observed a number of industry related courses which the students can take through NPTEL.
NPTEL provides detailed content of every possible subject in all the stream of education. The special guest and speaker for the day Mr. Shib Shankar Das, Network Engineer from CET, IIT Kharagpur explained NPTEL in detail. Here are some highlights of his presentation:
- The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), provides e-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Management, and Humanities. This is a joint initiative by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore. Other selected premier institutions also, act as Associate Partner Institutions.
- Certification courses are offered by NPTEL in association with industry partners like Aricent, NASSCOM, and Google. These courses offered 2 or 3 times every year are aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry. On successful completion of the course, an in-person, proctored exam can be taken by paying a nominal fee. Those who pass the exam will be awarded a certificate.
UGC has recently recommended NPTEL courses to all universities of the country. They are also making provision to get the Credit Transfer scheme approved for various universities. After these student can take online courses as a substitute to some of their regular university courses. This will tremendously help the students of the state to improve their competitiveness to the top ranked institutes if the country.
Shri I P Mishra, President, Shri Gangajali Education Society, Mrs. Jaya Mishra, Vice-President, Shri Gangajali Education Society assured that SSTC will keep organizing such workshops for the uplifting the education level of Chhattisgarh. Vote of thanks was given by the SPOC of NPTEL-SSTC Local Chapter Dr. R N Patel. He mentioned that SSTC has secured its position under top 100 local chapters of NPTEL in the country. Dr. K. Deshmukh and Dr. Shrikant Tiwari was the overall coordinator for the workshop.
