Industrial Visit at Sonadih Cement Plant, LAFARGE

The students of 6th Semester E&I Dept. of SSTC visited Crest Sonadih Cement Plant (A Unit of LAFARGE Group) Durg on 02nd April 2016. Lafarge Cement is one of the leading players in Eastern & Central India. Lafarge Cement is one of the leading players in Eastern & Central India. The company produces high performance blended cements in Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Portland Pozzolona Cement (PPC) variants.

Department of Visit: Instrumentation Department, Sensor Design, kiln, Hooper Tank, Conveyor Section, PLC Control Room, Packaging Unit, Weighting Section Etc.
Learning Experience: The students learned about the manufacturing process of Cement and the control system associated with it.
Total 22 students were benefited from this visit.

Sonadih Cement Plant LAFARGE

The Department of E&I, SSTC had arranged Industrial Visit LAFARGE Cement Plant, Sonadih Industrial Area, District Baloda Bazar, Chhattisgarh on 2nd April 2016. The LAFARGE Cement Plant was situated nearly 140 km from the SSTC, SSGI Bhilai Campus.

Lafarge entered the Indian market in 1999, through its cement business. Lafarge currently has 6 cement plants in India. In recent years, Lafarge has significantly enlarged its operations across its three business divisions - Cement, Aggregates and Concrete. The company has an established presence across all major cities and towns in India. Lafarge today is the market leader in the ready-mix concrete business with around 68 plants. To make advances in building materials, Lafarge places the customer at the heart of its concerns.

Lafarge entered the Indian market in 1999, through its cement business, with the acquisition of Tata Steel’s cement activity. This acquisition was followed by the purchase of the Raymond Cement facility in 2001. Lafarge currently has four cement plants in India: two plants in the state of Chhattisgarh (Sonadih and Arasmeta) and Grinding Units in Jharkhand (Jojobera) and West Bengal (Mejia).

In recent years, Lafarge has significantly enlarged its operations across its three business divisions –

Lafarge today is the market leader in the ready-mix concrete business with around 80 plants, following its acquisition of L&T Concrete with an annual capacity of around 6.3 million cubic meters. The Group has also built a gypsum plasterboard plant near Khushkhera, Rajasthan, with an annual capacity of around 10 million m2.

Lafarge’s total cement production capacity in the Indian market currently stands at around 7 million tons and Lafarge India has charted plans to expand its presence nationally in the coming years. In addition to capacity expansions at Sonadih and Jojobera, the Company is building on the success of its regional development models and is in the process of starting projects in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.
